Barbados Island can be reached either by air or by water. For getting around in Barbados you will find a great service of buses, taxes or any kind of transport hire which will take you to any point in the island.
Barbados does not have their national airlines, but there are regular direct flights from London with British Airlines or Virgin Atlantic, or from the USA with American Airlines. Getting here from London will take approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes, and from New York - 5 hours.
Barbados Grantley Adams International Airport is situated 16km (10 miles) southeast of Bridgetown, in Christ Church. There is a regular bus service to city every 10 minutes or a 24/7 taxi service. It will take about 45 minutes by bus, or half an hour by taxi. For an extra charge airport porters will transport your luggage between luggage claim and street. If you feel spending some extra money on souvenirs or other goods, you will find a duty-free shops offering a wide range of jewelry, perfumes, china, crystal, cameras, shoes, clothing and so on. You will also be able to use services of bank, post office, bureau de change, or relax and grab a cup of coffee or a snack in bar or restaurant.
If you travel by water, Barbados will welcome you in its deep-water harbor at Bridgetown. Bridgetown Cruise Ship terminal contains duty-free shops, a local goods market, restaurants and bars, customs, immigration, health services and police facilities. You will also find here a car hire, bureau de change or ATM, communication centre with telephones, internet or fax machines and mobile phone hire.
